The Episcopal Center for Children (ECC) is a private, nonprofit, non-denominational day treatment facility for emotionally troubled children and their families from the greater Washington, DC area. The program is designed for children between the ages of 5 to 13 years, grades K – 7, with sufficient cognitive ability to benefit from the program. Acceptance is based on the needs of the children and families, regardless of religious affiliation, race, or financial status. The goal of treatment, therapeutic milieu, and individualized special education programming is to empower each child to function productively within his/her family and the community, to return to his/her public school, and have a real opportunity for a successful, emotionally healthy, and productive future. The ECC’s programming is based on the core belief in children, their strengths, and in what they can be.
The Recreational Therapist plans, directs, evaluates, and coordinates recreation-based treatment programs for the Center’s students. The implementation of recreation-based treatment programs will: increase, maintain, or restore functions; maximize or prevent disability; and, assist students in reaching their maximum performance levels in areas of leisure education, adaptive recreation, and recreational activities. The Recreational Therapist works within a team in the delivery of care, and participates in educational experiences and student trips to help maintain or improve the physical, social, and emotional well-being of the students.
The successful candidate will function in five key areas – 1) Program Development and Implementation; 2) Policy, Procedures, and Protocol; 3) Team and Accommodation Coordination; 4) Recordkeeping, Report Writing, and Evaluation; and 5) Program Communication. The successful candidate will be a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) with strong organizational skills and experience working in an educational or clinical capacity.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree, and be certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation. Experience working with school-age children with emotional challenges; working knowledge of TR/RT principles and practices; monitoring and reporting skills; technologically adept.
